Damien
I began performing Damien in 1989 after my second trip to Medugorje. What I learned from my first trip to Medugorje was that I was to work for Jesus for the rest of my life, but He didn't tell me what work. The moment my wife and I reached the foot of Mount Crucivic on our decent Jesus answered the "what work?" question with......use your acting talents. I did not hear Him say that phrase, but I felt it in my heart as well as in my head. When I told my wife what it was Jesus wanted me to do, she said, "your going to be an actor?!!!" Actor... what a dreaded word. An actor who was to perform exclusively the lives of great men in religious history! SAINTS!
So where do you go to find a play about a saint? ... the library. There in a massive volumn of a series of massive volumns called The Play Directory under the very first category, one man-one character,, was a play called DAMIEN. And so began the greatest journey of my life. That is really saying something because I have had a lot of great journeys.
What a man! What a man! What a man! Nobody even comes close to Blessed Damien when it comes to devotion to God. Damien stands atop the shoulders of St. Peter and St. Paul. Why do I even dare compare Damien to other saints, because Damien endured during his march to perfection every trial and hardship every christian has ever endured but magnified a hundred times.
On May 10, 1873 Father Damien became the leper's priest on Molokai, Hawaii. Word spread so fast that this young handsome priest had volunteered to do this that even back then the whole world became aware of this man quickly. He was famous. That frightened him. He was afraid that it might inflict him with pride and conceit, and destroy his desire to follow Christ humbly.
